Why AI coding agents need a control room, not another chat window
Chat logs are where delivered work goes to die. Here is why we built Agentis around tasks, approvals and artifacts instead of conversations.

Every team that adopts AI coding agents hits the same wall after the honeymoon week: the agent produced something useful, but nobody can find it, review it or explain it three days later. The output lives in a chat scrollback, the context lives in someone’s head, and the cost lives in a surprise invoice.
We believe the unit of agent work is not a message — it is a task. A task has an owner, a status, a history of runs, artifacts that survive the run, and a clear moment when a human said “yes, ship it”.
Conversations do not scale, workflows do
A chat window is great for exploring. It is terrible for delivering. When five people on a team each have their own private agent conversations, the organization learns nothing. When the same five people route work through shared tasks, every run becomes searchable history, every approval is auditable and every finished task feeds knowledge back into the next one.
- Tasks have owners and statuses — work cannot silently stall.
- Runs are recorded with full tool history, tokens and cost.
- Approvals are explicit: the agent asks, a human decides, the decision is stored.
- Artifacts (diffs, documents, exports) outlive the conversation.
“The question is never whether agents can write code. It is whether you can answer “who changed this, why, and what did it cost” six weeks later.”
What a control room changes in practice
With a control room, the agent stops being a private assistant and becomes a team member with a visible queue. Intake happens where people already work — Slack, VS Code, the browser — but everything lands in one place with one lifecycle: capture, context, run, review, learn.
That last step matters most. Finished tasks become release notes, decisions and reusable context. The hundredth task your team runs should be cheaper and faster than the first — and that only happens when the system remembers.
